Introduction

At MOHE, we run three factories in Wenzhou, Putian, and Guangzhou. We’re not an agency—we’re the manufacturer. This guide walks you through our sample process, from initial inquiry to shipping approval samples. We’ll cover realistic lead times, costs, and what you need to prepare.

1. Initial Inquiry and Technical Preparation

What We Need From You

To start samples, we require:

Our Response Time

Within 2 business days, we review feasibility and provide a sample cost estimate. For complex designs (e.g., injection-molded soles or advanced knit uppers), we may request a short call to clarify details.

2. Sample Types and Lead Times

Development Samples (Counter Samples)

These are the first physical samples made from your design. Lead time: 10–15 business days after we receive all specs and materials (if standard). For non-stock materials (e.g., custom colors or leathers), add 5–7 days for sourcing.

Cost: $80–$150 per pair, depending on complexity. We deduct this from your first production order if you place within 60 days.

Salesman Samples

Once development samples are approved, we produce salesman samples for showrooms or buyer meetings. Lead time: 7–10 business days after approval. Minimum order: 3 pairs per style (we recommend 5–8 for proper presentation).

Cost: $50–$100 per pair, with volume discounts for 10+ pairs.

Photo Samples

For catalog or e-commerce images, we can send pre-production samples early. Same timeline as salesman samples, but we prioritize photography-quality finishing.

Approval Samples (Pre-Production Samples)

These are made from the actual production materials and tooling. Lead time: 15–20 business days after all materials arrive and molds are ready. We ship via express (DHL/FedEx) at your cost, typically 3–5 days.

Cost: Included in sample budget (usually $100–$200 per style).

3. MOQ and Sample Quantities

Minimum Order Quantities

Our MOQ per style is 300 pairs per color for standard constructions (cement, vulcanized). For injection or direct-attach, MOQ is 500 pairs. We can negotiate lower MOQs (150–200 pairs) for first orders with a 20% surcharge.

Sample Quantities

We recommend ordering 2–3 pairs of development samples for fit and wear testing. For salesman samples, 5–8 pairs cover multiple sizes and colorways. Approval samples: 1–2 pairs per style.

4. Cost Breakdown and Payment Terms

Sample Costs

| Sample Type | Cost per Pair (USD) | Lead Time (Business Days) |
|-------------|---------------------|---------------------------|
| Development | $80–$150 | 10–15 |
| Salesman | $50–$100 | 7–10 |
| Approval | $100–$200 | 15–20 |

Prices exclude shipping and customs duties. We accept PayPal, T/T, or Alibaba Trade Assurance for samples.

Payment Terms

5. Shipping and Logistics

Sample Shipping

We use DHL, FedEx, or UPS. Typical cost: $50–$80 for 2–3 pairs to the US/EU. Transit: 3–5 business days. We can consolidate multiple styles into one shipment to save costs.

Production Shipping

FOB from Xiamen, Shanghai, or Shenzhen. Sea freight: 20–30 days to US West Coast, 30–40 days to Europe. Air freight available for urgent orders (3–5 days).

6. Common Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them

Incomplete Specs

Missing size charts or material codes cause delays. Use our spec template (provided on request) to ensure accuracy.

Unrealistic Timelines

Rush samples (5 days) are possible but cost 50% extra. Plan for at least 4 weeks from initial inquiry to approval samples.

Material Sourcing

Custom materials (e.g., vegan leather with specific textures) require 10–15 days to source. We recommend selecting from our existing material library (500+ options) to save time.

Conclusion

Samples are the foundation of a successful shoe partnership. At MOHE, we treat every sample as a commitment to quality. If you have a project, send us your brief—we’ll respond with a clear timeline and cost within 48 hours.
