Amazon FBA Shoes from China — Supplier Checklist
A factory-direct guide for international shoe importers sourcing for Amazon FBA, covering MOQs, lead times, pricing, compliance, and logistics.
1. Why Source Direct from a Chinese Shoe Factory?
When you buy from a factory like MOHE, you skip the middleman. That means lower unit costs, direct control over quality, and the ability to customize. For Amazon FBA sellers, this is critical: your margins depend on landed cost. A factory-direct price for a casual sneaker might be $6–$12 FOB, while an agent might quote $9–$16. Over 10,000 units, that difference is real.
What We Mean by "Factory"
We own three production sites: Wenzhou (leather shoes), Putian (athletic shoes), and Guangzhou (sandals & slippers). Each site has 15+ years of export experience. We are not a trading company. You can video call us on the production floor. That’s the level of transparency you need for Amazon compliance.
2. MOQ, Lead Time & Pricing — The Numbers That Matter
Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs)
For standard styles (e.g., canvas sneakers, basic sandals), our MOQ is 500 pairs per style per color. For complex designs (e.g., hiking boots with multiple materials), MOQ starts at 1,000 pairs. If you’re testing a new Amazon listing, we offer a “sample MOQ” of 200 pairs at a 15% premium. This lets you validate the market without overcommitting.
Lead Times
- Sample production: 7–10 days (includes 3D modeling, material sourcing, and first article).
- Bulk production: 30–45 days after sample approval. Rush orders (20–25 days) available for a 10% surcharge.
- Shipping to Amazon warehouse: Add 15–25 days for sea freight (China to US West Coast). Air freight is 5–7 days but costs 3–4x more.
Pricing Examples (FOB China, per pair)
- Canvas slip-on: $5.80–$7.50
- Leather dress shoe: $12.00–$16.00
- Running shoe (knit upper): $8.50–$11.00
- Kids’ sandal: $3.20–$4.80
All prices include standard packaging (poly bag, barcode sticker). Premium packaging (shoe box with custom print) adds $0.30–$0.80 per pair.
3. Amazon Compliance — What Your Supplier Must Provide
Amazon has strict requirements for shoes. If your supplier can’t meet these, your shipments may be blocked or your account suspended.
Required Documentation
- Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) for kids’ shoes (sizes up to 13). We test to ASTM F963 and CPSIA.
- General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) for adult shoes.
- Lab test reports for lead, phthalates, and physical hazards (e.g., small parts). We use SGS or Intertek.
- Country of origin marking: “Made in China” on each shoe (inside or on the box).
Product Listing Requirements
- UPC/EAN codes: We can assign GS1-compliant barcodes for $0.05 per pair.
- Product dimensions & weight: We provide exact data for FBA fee calculation.
- Images: We offer 360° product photography and lifestyle shots (additional cost).
Restricted Materials
Avoid materials that trigger Amazon’s restricted list: certain adhesives (e.g., benzene-based), lead in sole compounds, or phthalates above 0.1%. We use water-based adhesives and REACH-compliant materials as standard.
4. Quality Control — How We Ensure Consistency
We follow a three-stage QC process. You can hire a third-party inspector, but our in-house team is ISO 9001 certified.
Incoming Material Inspection
Every batch of leather, fabric, rubber, and foam is tested for thickness, colorfastness, and tensile strength. Rejected materials are returned to the supplier.
In-Process Inspection
During assembly, we check stitching, glue application, and sole attachment. Random samples (10% of production) are pulled every 2 hours. Defects are flagged and reworked immediately.
Final Random Inspection (FRI)
Before shipment, we inspect 20% of the lot (AQL 2.5 for major defects, 4.0 for minor). If failure rate exceeds 5%, the entire lot is re-sorted. You get a detailed report with photos.
What We Test
- Peel strength (sole to upper): minimum 3 kg/cm
- Abrasion resistance (outsole): ≤ 200 mm³ loss (DIN method)
- Flexing resistance: 30,000 flexes without cracking
- Color fastness: Grade 4 (out of 5) for rubbing and water
5. Logistics & Shipping — Getting to Amazon FBA
We handle everything from factory to Amazon warehouse. You don’t need a freight forwarder unless you prefer one.
Our Shipping Services
- Sea freight (LCL or FCL): We consolidate with other FBA shipments to reduce cost. Typical rate to US West Coast: $8–$15 per cubic meter (LCL).
- Air freight: $4–$6 per kg for urgent restocks.
- Amazon prep services: We apply FBA labels, polybag each pair, and pack in standard cartons (max 50 lbs per box).
Incoterms We Offer
- FOB Shanghai/Ningbo: You own the cargo once it’s on board.
- CIF to US port: We cover freight and insurance.
- DDP to Amazon warehouse: All-inclusive (duties, taxes, delivery). Most popular for first-time importers.
Customs & Duties
- HS Code: 6402 (other footwear with rubber/plastic soles and leather uppers) or 6404 (textile uppers). Duty rate: 8–20% depending on material.
